How to… shop small this Christmas

Christmas shopping with independent brands can make a huge difference to individuals, small businesses and local economies.

So we’ve put together a small guide of independent brands that we’re shopping this Christmas, local to Sheffield (and a couple in Margate following a fabulous visit last weekend!)

The Margate Bookshop

A small and beautiful independent bookshop selling a carefully selected and diverse collection of beautiful contemporary books. So many to choose from, but we plumbed for Talk Art, Difficult Women by Helen Lewis and Insatiable by Daisy Buchanan

Nyoo

We love Nyoo’s handmade collection of slow fashion and accessories created here in Sheffield. Designed by Lucy Jo Newell with her amazing eye for detail, the collections are inspired by nostalgia, and many are made using deadstock and fabric roll-ends.

Bullion Chocolate

We’re self-appointed chocolate experts, with no actual expertise but plenty of experience under our belts, and Bullion Chocolate are our absolute faves. Crafted from the bean right here in Sheffield, their chocolate, hot chocolate and liqueurs are divine.

Barkby Drum Co

In addition to custom snare drums, Barkby Drum Co. also handmake leather and canvas accessories including wallets, camera and guitar straps, bags and collars.

WerkHaus

A collection of modern utilitarian womenswear, accessories and curated vintage pieces. Their shop is a delight to visit in person but a lot of their collection can be bought online including some amazing vintage jumpsuits and quilted boiler suits.

Lyon & Feather

Sheffield based jeweller Natasha Lyons handmakes timeless jewellery, many pieces electroformed using semi-precious stones. Not only is the jewellery beautiful, Natasha is just the nicest.
