Studio update... a little back story.

It’s some time since we’ve added to our Notebook - settling into the wonderful world of refillables has been a quite a ride!

We’ve been working toward this point for a while and wanted to get it just right. And here we are. We’ve made it. And I’m so happy (and relieved!) with where we find ourselves, for three big reasons:

  1. we’re delivering a more sustainable offer (forever our primary aim)

  2. we’re working more efficiently

  3. we’re collaborating with amazing, creative women

Finding the right way to make refillable candles has been a tricky journey. We experimented with making refills for glassware, but the resulting candles weren’t very neat. We also thought about offering a refilling service, but returning glassware to be refilled meant extra mileage - and a higher carbon footprint.

On the other hand, refilling ceramic vessels is super satisfying! Each refill fits snugly into its home and with a lovely crisp finish. And, as we’ve been looking to work more efficiently, we decided to stop using glassware and take a great big leap in to solely pouring candles into handmade ceramics by collaborating with other women makers.

This comes with another big benefit - the added joy and excitement of working with other women! We LOVED collaborating with ceramicist Franky of Grey Suit Clay; it adds a whole other level of fulfillment to the working day.
